answer 1
Our products are designed for household use and have not been tested for archival properties, so we do not recommend them for specific preservation applications. Most of our storage products considered for such functions are made from polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene, which contain no plasticizers (softeners). These materials can be identified by the molded recycle symbols 2, 4, 5 and 6. Archivists avoid plastics like PVS (vinyl) due to the presence of plasticizers and their potential to migrate. It should also be noted that gasses and water vapor can pass through the walls of plastic containers over time. Therefore, even a product with a very good lid seal cannot completely exclude them during years of storage.
