FastTrack® Rails

The backbone of the FastTrack Garage Organization System, FastTrack rails are quick and easy to install. The heavy steel construction provides extra durability, and each rail holds up to 1,750 lbs. To install the FastTrack Rails, you will need a hardware pack : one pack is needed to mount a 48" rail and two packs are needed to mount an 84" rail. Questions & Answers for FastTrack® Rails

Question

What should I do if I am unable to activate the wall anchors once that have been pushed in?

I think the size of the drywall is too thick, and I pushed all of the anchors in before trying to activate one. SHould I just screw the screws in, or try to activate with a sturdier activator?

Just screw the screws in. I had the same problem. If you try to "tap" the black activate tool in to open the anchor - it will break. It's not strong enough. You can tap trough using a nail or hole punch, but that will just break part of the anchor jaws. The anchor is still usable, just screw into it and it will expand enough to hold.

If your drywall is thicker than a 1/2" you will need to purchase the correct size wall anchor at your local hardware store. Our hardware is to be used with 1/2" drywall only.

Question

Installing track system on an unfinished garage wall.

I purchased an 84" rail and a variety of hooks. My wall studs are 15" and 14" apart. Can I safely use the system? I plan to hang shovels, brooms, extension cords, etc. No ladders, bikes or heavy equipment. The salesperson never mentioned this system was for finished garages.

You should be ok. The system installation provides holes every inch for your exact reason. As long as you are hitting studs and not hangning heavy equipment, I would give it a run if I was you.

The FastTrack Garage system cannot be installed on open studs. These are to be installed into a wall that is surfaced (with studs located behind the surface).

Question

Custom FastTrack rail sizes>

I want to install the rails in a shed. 42" is the perfect size and 48" is too big. The 32" rails are too small. Do you make rails in custom sizes? Or if I order the 48" rail can I cut it to 42"? If so, what tools do I need to cut it? Thanks!

I just bought a 48" rail and it appears it would be pretty easy to cut both the plastic cover and the metal rail with a hack saw. Just show the rail to an employee at Lowes or whatever and ask them for the best hacksaw blade.

Install the rail according to the instructions and use sheet metal screws specified below in steel studs (assuming 5/8” drywall; if ¾” drywall new anchors will need to be purchased – see ¾” drywall installation). Also since the product was not designed for this wall type (drywall over plywood), we cannot guarantee the maximum load capacities of the 48” or 84” rails in this scenario.

Question

New Upright Extension Doesn't Fit Old Track Rails?

I purchased a bunch of FastTrack rails and accessories a year or 2 ago. I just ordered some additional upright extensions and they do not appear to fit my existing rails. Is this indeed the case? And, if I need to order new rails, how can I differentiate between the new and old rails while shopping online (are there different part numbers)?

As stated on our website, due to a deeper upright depth and revised slot location for securing to the rail, the new design of the 25" Upright Extension is not compatible with previous designs of FastTrack garage uprights and extensions. If you choose to order the new uprights you will be able to determine the old design vs. the new design as the older style upright used a gripper to attach to the hangrail and the new design no longer uses a gripper, the upright has a cut out that on the back of it that snaps right over the hang rail. If purchasing online from Rubbermaid our photos will indicate "New Design", if it is the newer style. The older style uprights and the newer style uprights can not be interchanged, you must use all new uprights or all older uprights. Our webpage will also indicate the item number of the product under the "Product Specifications" tab of the product page.
