FIRST, I will answer to JLewis. From my perspective, we have to stop looking from the angle that we can get a new garbage for the same price as the lid. As consumers, we have behave inteligently about the overconsumption. When we purchase a garbage, we should make sure it will last for the maximum number of years.
SECOND: I think a company like Rubbermade should definitively make sure that lid replacements are available at least in one store in each big cities. That is part of what should be their intitiatives in order to contribute to an 'greener' practices.
Let's face it: What will go wrong with this garbage over the years? Most likely it will be a lost of lid (due to high wind, or stolen). Or get damage because a car runs over it.
