Customer Questions & Answers for
Horizontal Bike Rack

Part of the FastTrack Garage Organization System, the Horizontal Bike Rack stores bikes up off the floor to protect them from accidents and reclaim parking space. Its "soft grip" coating protects it from nicks and scratches. A locking gripper and push/pull lever make it easy to attach and adjust on the rail so you can create a customized garage storage system that can change as your storage needs change.

The hook centers the frame 11" from the wall so that's half of 22" (if you want the handlebars to sit perfectly straight). My bike has bars just a hair under 27" but it still hangs fine with the front wheel slightly turned. (Gary Fisher Tarpon hardtail, stock everything. Your basic entry level 19.5" frame mountain bike)

The maximum width would vary according to the design of the bike. For assistance in determining how a specific bicycle will fit, please contact our Consumer Services Department by calling toll free 888-895-2110, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

Question

Can this work with a woman's bicycle?

I bought one of these, but when I tried to hang my bike on it by the slanted horizontal bar, it made contact with only one of the hooks. Any suggestions?

I recently purchase the same system to hang 2 bikes a man’s and a woman’s bike. I finally after trying different hooks, I have decided to return the whole system because it doesn’t work for women’s bikes’. I would advise the same thing to you. Rubber maid is in the trash can business and not the bike rack business.

It is possible to hang a woman's bike but the weight of the bike needs to be evenly distributed on each hook; the ability to do this will depend on the geometry of the bike.

To identify if the weight is evenly distributed, visually check that the hooks are level relative to one another after loading. For instance, if the left hook deflects downward more than the right hook after loading, the bike would need to be moved/adjusted to the right.

Also, depending on the geometry of the bike, it may be possible to use another or two different bars on the bike for hanging

The Horizontal Bike Rack can be installed directly into a stud using two #10 x 2" Screws. Be sure to install the screw into the bottom hole on the accessory first. This hardware will need to be purchased separately.

Question

How does the locking mechanism work?

Do you have any pictures or more information on how the new locking accessories work?

I have been looking for a bicycle storage solution for the common area of an apartment building. There is a hallway on the ground floor where we could install a FastTrack rail and bicycle hooks. Is the new locking mechanism something that would prevent theft?

We appreciate your interest in our Fast Track Garage products.

Rubbermaid has updated this product with locking grippers that provide reinforced security when attaching hooks to the rail. It does not have any type of locking mechanism designed to prevent theft.

Question

Could you/will you make hooks to hold surfboards or stand up paddle boards?

This is a big need here in SoCal. A variation to the Horizontal Bike hook, or the hose hooks (used in a pair) would work. Please do it! Thanks
