Question

Are all new and old takealongs BPA free?

I bought my set of takealongs a couple years ago and the bottom of the base doesn't show anything that says it's BPA free, so I wanted to know if only new takealongs are made BPA free.

I would take it back to the store where it was purchased from and see if they will give you a replacement for the lid. You also should have your receipt so this will make the process go easier.

Bisphenol -A (BPA) is a chemical used by hundreds of manufacturers as a building block of polycarbonate plastics for food surface applications.

The TakeAlongs are made of Polypropylene (#5-PP), not polycarbonate, so it would not contain BPA.

Question

Why do I taste detergent on my takealongs?

I've noticed the last couple of times I used my take alongs, I've noticed a dish detergent taste on them. They've been washed in the dishwasher, top rack. Nothing else in the dishwasher has the taste, so it doesn't appear to be a rinsing issue. Any idea what is causing this? IT's starting to leach into the food when it gets microwaved.

Plastic can absorb tastes and odors. To clean and deodorize the containers, wash them with baking soda sprinkled on a damp sponge. For tougher odors/tastes, soak the items in a solution of four tablespoons of baking soda and one quart of warm water.
