"Rubbermaid Home Products are not treated with flame- retardants and most will burn. They are household products and have not been submitted to any agency for flammability testing or certification. Most will melt at temperatures between 260 and 320 degrees Fahrenheit and will self-ignite at about 600 degrees Fahrenheit."

"We assume your concern may be with the possibility of Natural Rubber (NR) latex being present in any form in our products. It is our pleasure to inform you that NR latex is not present in any Rubbermaid Home Products, with the possible exception of our Household Gloves (sourced in SE Asia and made from NR latex). All other products containing ""rubber-like"" materials are made of synthetics.

It is important to differentiate as to the type of latex in question. Today, the term ""latex"" has almost become generic in describing a usually milky white emulsion of organics designed and compounded to do everyday jobs. You are likely most familiar with latex paints, caulking compounds and adhesive systems. These materials bear little similarity to the naturally occurring latex as they are formulated of synthetic materials. Most of natural latex's proteins and allergens that are formed during plant synthesis are not present in synthetic latexes. Many plants produce naturally occurring latex: poppy, rubber, dandelion and lettuce to name a few, and not all of these are of concern or cause problems. It has been reported that allergies to NR latex are an epidemic among certain occupations and activities. "

The Refillable Spray bottle allows you to create your own cleaning solution using your favorite household cleaner or use plain hot water. We do not manufacture a cleaning solution for the Reveal products. The microfiber pad is machine washable and can be washed using your favorite "pet friendly" detergent.

Dioxins are complex chlorinated chemicals. Rubbermaid food storage containers and beverage containers do not contain chlorine and thus cannot create or release dioxins. Our food storage and beverage containers do not contain phthalates, adipates, or other plasticizers, which could migrate into food.

While there is not a substance that can leach from the container, it is not suggested to pour boiling water into any beverage container or pitcher. The heat can cause the plastic to soften and possibly collapse, resulting in injury. We do not advise the use of boiling water in our containers.

Rubbermaid Consumer Products makes numerous items sold for household use. Many of these products are designed for uses involving food contact in the household environment. Products intended for use in contact with food comply with all applicable United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. Food contact products are identified as such by wording and illustration on their packaging. Products without such designation should not be used for food contact purposes. Our storage totes are not food grade safe.

Plasticizers, such as adipates and phthalates, are used to soften certain types of plastic, primarily PVC (recycle symbol # 8). BPA is found in a plastic called Polycarbonate (recycle symbol #7-OTHER), which is a hard plastic resistant to staining.

Our laundry baskets are not made from either PVC or Polycarbonate.

Can I exchange my old containers that have BPA in them for new BPA free ones?

I have a set of the older version of Stain Shield containers. I was looking to get more of them and fell upon the knowledge of them having BPA in them. I was wondering if you would be willing to exchange what I have for BPA free ones? They are in good condition. I would also like to purchase an additional set too.

We do not currently offer an exchange program for our food storage containers.

Rubbermaid is committed to following the guidelines set forth by appropriate regulatory bodies such as the FDA, EU, NSF or other regulatory agencies that specific products may fall under. It is not our intent to make judgments outside of what the FDA has set forth as guidelines. However, in the spirit of responding to our consumers concerns, we made the decision to no longer use polycarbonate in any of our consumer food storage product lines

We know the issues around BPA continue to be discussed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and we are closely following developments in this area.
